Bob Johnson Classic bringing together Emory & Henry basketball alumni while honoring late coach
The first ever Bob Johnson Classic was underway at Lord Botetourt Saturday, honoring the late โCoach Jโ, the winningest basketball coach at Emory & Henry. Lord Botetourt head coach Andrew Hart reached out to coaches all over Virginia who were Emory & Henry basketball alumni, encouraging them to bring their teams to Daleville for a bit of a reunion, and to remember the man who lead them to where they are today.
Charity golf event benefits scholarship fund honoring late Kip Nininger
32 teams made their way around 18 holes at the Botetourt Golf and Swim Club on Thursday to raise money for the Kip Nininger Scholarship Foundation. Nininger was a 2x wrestling state champion who suited up for Cave Spring and Christiansburg. He passed away tragically in May. With 12 corporate sponsors and over 70 hole sponsors, his father Chris was thankful for the turnout.
Dalevilleโs Olivia Bray helps lead Texas to 3rd place finish in NCAA Swim & Dive Championship
ROANOKE, Va. โ Dalevilleโs Olivia Bray has many titles; Lord Botetourt alum, Olympic Trial Qualifier, Texas Longhorn, and now, and All-American. Last week, she competed in multiple events in her first NCAA Swim & Dive Championship, taking home silver in the 200-meter butterfly as a freshman. โThere were eight of us, two swimmers had been to an NCAA Championship before so we were a new group to go. We went to go get the trophy and we couldnโt let it go.โAdBray placed 3rd in the 400-yard medley relay, 7th in the 200-yard medley relay, 9th in the 400-yard freestyle relay with her team, 7th in the 100-yard butterfly, 16th in the 100-yard backstroke, 2nd in the 200-yard butterfly. With her Olympic dreams put on hold last year, she also intends on competing in the Olympic trials this summer.
Munters announces plans to move from Buena Vista to Botetourt County
DALEVILLE, Va. โ A manufacturing facility is making a big move and opening a new site in Botetourt County. Thursday County leaders announced that the Munters Cooperation would be expanding and investing 36 million dollars for a new facility in Daleville. Munters Group AB, headquartered in Kista, Stockholm, Sweden, represents the 13th nation in the Botetourt County manufacturing community. โThis company had a number of options and opportunities to consider, outside of Virginia, county competed with many other localities in several states to position ourselves as the right choice for monitors needs today,โ Botetourt County Administrator Gary Larrowe Said. ft. facility will house manufacturing, research and development, and sales of data center cooling systems and high-temperature industrial process systems.

Lord Botetourt ready to resume football vs GW Danville
Daleville, Va. โ When last we saw Lord Botetourtโs football team, they were battling Hopewell in the Class 3 state title game at Liberty University. Itโs not a traditional opponent for the Cavaliers, but coach Harless says he was happy to get the matchup. โGreat football program, great tradition, just neat having them come to Daleville and play,โ Harless says. AdWhen last we saw GW Danville they were falling in the Class 4 region semifinals to Salem by a 48-21 count. The Eagles and Cavaliers are set to kick off at 1 p.m. in Daleville on Saturday.
Man found hiding in Botetourt County Sheetz bathroom after 20+ mile chase, police say
The stolen Saturn Vue ended up parking at the Sheetz in Daleville, according to Virginia State Police. BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. โ A 50-year-old Dublin man is in jail after police said he led them on a chase for about 30 miles on Friday. Eventually, Bedford police ended their pursuit and Virginia State Police took over. The chase went into Botetourt County and ended on U.S. 220 when Rakes ran over spike strips laid down by state police, according to state police. He was wanted in Bath County for the stolen vehicle and will face additional charges relating to the pursuit.
Winter weather hits Botetourt County
DALEVILLE, Va โ While the Roanoke area didnโt see much snow Sunday morning, it was a very different situation in Botetourt County. Plow drivers also say be sure to keep a good distance from crews removing snow if you do have to be on the roads during winter weather. The winter weather could cause some road bumps for high school sports that got moved to the winter season. Lord Botetourt high school is one of several high schools that started practice last week. Because the county saw around two inches of snow this morning, fans worry winter weather could also have impacts on an already delayed schedule.
Freezinโ for a reason: Polar Plunge exceeds fundraising goal for Special Olympics Virginia
DALEVILLE, Va. โ Saturday marked another successful polar plunge benefitting Special Olympics Virginia. The scenery was a little different for this yearโs Polar Plunge but the cause was the same. โWe were freezinโ for a reason,โ WSLS 10 News team co-captain and anchor Brittny McGraw said. โYou canโt ask for a more worthy organization than the Special Olympics of Virginia,โ Haniewich said. Thanks to your generous donations, the 10 News team also exceeded its goal, raising $6,650.
Lord Botetourt girls basketball feeling grateful amid challenging preseason
DALEVILLE, Va. โ After nearly nine months of no high school basketball, the Lord Botetourt Cavaliers were grateful to be back on the court. โI just want to take advantage of anything that Iโm given this year,โ senior Grace Taylor said. โSo weโre in phase two in Botetourt which means we canโt pass the ball,โ she said. โItโs really hard to game prep right now because we canโt do anything five on five, we canโt do anything five on zero, so we canโt pass and put in plays or anything like that,โ Favaro said. โWhatever Iโm given, Iโm just looking to play, anything that is, just shooting or doing something with the team, Iโm thankful for that,โ Taylor finished.

But if we donโt, to think of the accomplishments this group has had, itโs still going to be a great feeling.โ
